Chemistry Merit Badge

Mike M. stirs powdered copper into a cup of water to plate a nickel.

Usually, if someone has THIS look on their face, something is about to explode. Watch out, Daniel!

A 3-hour merit badge class for Chemistry was held at West Maple last month.
The night started off with a pizza and salad dinner, after which we proceeded into the class. The people from Mad Science were there and helped us the whole way. Various activities included copper-plating nickels, making molecules from marshmallows and toothpicks, and several experiments on how pollution really can't be eliminated once it's there. See the column on the left for pictures.

Mr. H.  and Mrs. D. do all that boring paperwork necessary for everyone to get their badge.

Hey, that's me!

Andrew K.  looks like some monster-movie-esque mad scientist stirring the contents of a plastic cup...let's hope he doesn't drink it...
